Canadian Natural has a diverse and well balanced portfolio with operations in Western Canada, the North Sea, and Offshore Africa.
We are the largest producer of heavy oil in North America and the second largest producer of natural gas in Western Canada. We have a large reserve base with significant value to unlock in conventional and unconventional gas, light oil, primary heavy oil, Pelican Lake heavy oil, thermal in situ and oil sands mining.
Thermal in situ and oil sands mining are a key part of our strategy to transition to a longer-life, more sustainable asset base. We target to grow our thermal in situ production to 500,000 bbl/d by delivering projects that will add 40,000 to 60,000 bbl/d of production every two to three years. At Horizon, our world class oil sands mining operation, we are expanding to 250,000 bbl/d of production capacity and ultimately plan to expand to 500,000 bbl/d.
